E-book review: Spell Circles by Simon Kewin

In my opinion, short stories (along with poetry) are really difficult to do well. Because the author doesn't have the time to build up a premise or characters, it really is all down to the writing and nothing else.

Simon Kewin is a very talented writer, and nothing displays that more than the witty short fiction that appears in between the longer stories in Spell Circles. He can craft with one sentence what a lot of writers fail to achieve with a fifteen page chapter. This ebook is jam-packed, but my personal favourite was the Faerie tale which I found enjoyable but also moving.

This is the first epublished-only book I have bought and it won't be the last. Spell Circles completely dispels any fear I had about substandard formatting taking over ebooks. It is so professional, it leaves several of "the classics" on my iPad severely wanting.

A definite recommend.

The reviews sound good. I think I'll be adding this to my Kindle list of books to read.

That's good news, Donna. Maybe when enough good stuff gets out there and does well it will let the authors of less well done submissions realized they need to up their games.

Donna,

Just wanted to thank you for this gem of a review. I'm delighted you enjoyed the book. And the formatting! I've learned a great deal about Kindle formatting over the past few months, and now quite enjoy it.

Old Kitty - I hear what you're saying! Definitely I need to publich on paper, too. It's a shame Amazon don't make this easy, but, alas, it's a matter of creating a completely different format of file ...

My pleasure, Simon. I'm learning about formatting as well. It isn't as hard as I thought it would be, but it isn't something you can rush.
